Degree-granting higher education institutions are represented in 21 of New Mexico’s 33 counties. Bernalillo County, where Albuquerque is located, contains the most institutions at ten. These degree-granting institutions enrolled 110,178 undergraduate students and 20,084 graduate students. New Mexico has decreased, since 2012, in the number of undergraduate students but increased in the number of students choosing to enroll in distance education. At the graduate level, enrollments have also decreased creased since 2012, but the number of students enrolling in distance education has increased.
